The Weight of Control, Censorship

Technology is hidden by the simple tools of censorship. What is not known simply doesn’t exist. It is not possible, and a lack of awareness to those ends prevents the development of those technologies. Ignorance of possibilities is all it takes to prevent those possibilities from coming to pass in most cases. That isn’t to say an individual may dream up wonders or horrors, but it is sufficient with a population to prevent or massively slow the progress of technological advancement.

Overzone Censorship States

The Overzone (oz) Censorship States are the borders of technological states. The majority of the major factions are different layers of information and item control across the boundaries of each oz. Customs control and contraband traffic are heavily monitored at the district lines. There are even factions dedicated to hunting down and confiscating technologies which the empire have declared AM-Tier Restricted (amtr-one through amtr-five).

Mediva

(amtr-one) Mediva is beyond the outermost coil of the Ozwall. Several thousands of square miles of farmland, forests, and other untouched biomes exist in a preservation state of only the barest tools necessary for agriculture and iron forged weapons and armors.

Here the highest forms of technology may be the crossbow, clockwork, simple printing presses, eyeglasses, heavy mule driven agriculture, and the blast furnace working basic metallurgy. As non-currency states, trade is more likely than the exchange of Royal Stamps or Common Stamps. Digital currency (credits) are not used here at all and the social structures mostly exist without capitalistic economics.

Renisans

(amtr-two) Renisans is within the first coil of the Ozwall. It is nearly the same size as Mediva, hosting several thousands of square miles. This major difference here is instead of large family farms and villages clustered through the dirt and gravel highways and the very rare kingdom, the roads are paved with cobble and stone and the major junctions have small nations of several thousands of people every fifty to a hundred miles. 

It is within Renisans where art and basic labors of all kinds take place. Crafts see a level of mastery which rivals machined production. Magics are experimented with in most forms. Basic Chemistry, or more specifically, Alchemy is pioneered in Renisans. (amtr-two) includes black powder, non-complex explosives, mechanical clockwork constructs, and a rail road system. All hovering between late craftsmanship and early automation.

Molthern

(amtr-three) Molthern’s state is turn of the century, it is approximately half the size of Renisans and sits nested in the second coil of the Ozwall. The Datascape is established here, and the feed is pre-automated intelligence. The concept of AI exists only in the writings of science fiction, and all the technologies you’d expect in our modern life otherwise are present. From convenience, digital entertainment, to threats of weapons of mass destruction.

It is within Molthern where the stage of ethics between factions takes place. The populace is exposed to all forms of thought and constantly provoked into opinion of actions taken by their betters but the power to change things is often left to feel out of reach. The consensus of morality is polled. It is within Molthern where most Radical Factions operate. Outside of the media is still a place with constant strife, illegal activities, small systems which run amuck. All armed to the teeth with firearms, drones, and digital warfare.

Amcel

(amtr-four) Amcel is a fifth of the size of Molthern and is in the third coil of the Ozwall. Most denizens of Amcel live in a hybrid digital existence. The Artificial Mind is a public resource and serves as a hive mind and group thinking tool for many of the residents. Technology is mostly unrestricted here and any item an individual could want from food to weapons to toys or tools can be printed on demand if the individual has an appropriate authorization to do so.

Most of Amcel work in digital performance. Working with the Artificial Mind to create digital and physical experiences for others to participate in. Disturbances throughout Amcel include Digital Reality Blur Syndrome (drbs). The peaks of authority across the districts have residences here, all serving the emperor and whichever factions they’ve fallen into step with.

Amcor

The Amcor is the home of the Artificial Mind, the Ulm, and The Emperor. Those who live here other than the mentioned live in a purely digital existence. Timescale is perfectly stabilized, chronological time is stopped and the same physical day repeats endlessly while the lives of the residents move forward only in the virtual consciousness.
