Stealth

Attempting to sneak, hide, or attempt an action without being noticed? This will require a Stealth Check.

Stealth Check

One may only be as hidden as they are aware of themselves. Attempting to go unnoticed requires a Stealth Check. Anyone with Detection (Awareness) higher than your check will detect you. For Base Stealth, we use our Awareness Score, then add or subtract based on our variable effect.

Stealth: (Awareness ±100)

Effect: (v:10)

  1. Stealth = Awareness - 100

  2. Stealth = Awareness - 75

  3. Stealth = Awareness - 50

  4. Stealth = Awareness - 25

  5. Stealth = Awareness - 10

  6. Stealth = Awareness + 10

  7. Stealth = Awareness + 25

  8. Stealth = Awareness + 50

  9. Stealth = Awareness + 75

  10. Stealth = Awareness + 100

Detection Checks: (Awareness)

In 90% of situations our Characters are simply aware of what is in their surroundings. We also have Awareness States, which affect our Variable Challenges if the Story Guide decides to use a challenge. At most times we can assume our Detection is static value equal to our Awareness.

Awareness States

  • Sleeping: -200

  • Distracted: -50

  • Focused: -50 (+50 if Focused on searching for a specific Target)

  • Normal: ±0

The Story Guide’s Notes

You see it first. Every Variable Check Challenge at the table takes up time. We like to take in what our Character’s formations are. Who’s vigilant, who’s studying? who’s driving? Asking yourself who would see it first? Then make your move. Calling for a check to determine if something or someone goes unnoticed commonly forces meta awareness.

The Developer

If you stumbled here by accident, that’s all gravy. We use these pages in our archives as templates, style guides, reference content, and reusable assets. I’m also getting to write the FAQ, which is fun.
