Character Creation
Welcome to the Character Creation Overview. If this is the first time you are making a character, we recommend reading The Lordock and Base Vital Statistics as well as reading over the Game Mechanics. The Lordock also has our sample Lordock Google Doc if you need to make a copy. We have an application in development for character creation to make this process more streamlined.
Awakening
Prior to Awakening, your Character had their whole life. Awakening is the opening scene between your Story Guide and you. It is the moment when you assume the visage of your Character and bring them to life. Additional Awakening Scenes may happen throughout your campaign as you grow new branches or reach major milestones.
Overview
When making your character you choose your Species and your Origin Core, then buy your items and equipment as well as choose your Effect Trees.
First, Species
Second, Origin Core
Third, Itemization
Fourth, Effect Trees
Total Experience
Players level up and strengthen their Characters directly through gameplay.
In a standard game we begin at level One with 10 Total Experience.
This base Experience also grants us 10 Potential.
The Character’s level is determined by their total experience.
Our Level equals Total Experience divided by Ten. (Level = exp/10)
There is no maximum level.
The conclusion of a Minor Engagement grants One Experience Point, a Moderate Engagement Three Experience Points, an Extreme Engagement Five Experience Points, and a Potentially Fatal Engagement grants a full Ten Experience.
Growth
As you level up you gain Potential which may be spent to grow new Actions and Effects from Effect Trees or other Origin Cores.
Spending Potential
Outside of your Origin Core, most actions require Potential among other requirements to learn. You may spend your Potential to unlock these Actions.
Death is the End
Once in a while a rough moment takes us to the end of a Character. Death is permanent in The Vorcrux.
Most tables have an in house way to handle Character Death. When a Character Dies it is because it is time. Your Story Guide always has the option to Knock your Character unconscious or Kill them during Vulnerability. Some situations are inevitable. Many monsters as written will kill, but if they are facing the rest of the party, they may simply knock out the Character. We suggest a Find Out Later approach.
Are they dead? Alive? We won’t know until someone gets a chance to check. The Drama! The Suspense!
