Physical Prowess
Developer Notes: Bridging a small gap or hopping over difficult terrain. Scaling short buildings, or navigating a run across a tight rope. Physical Prowess governs variable calls based on the logical attribute association for the cinematic. With movement, we have defined mechanical actions which automate success. Sometimes, though, the Story Guide may throw a wrench in the moment and we don’t have a readily available tool for the situation.
Overcoming the Impossible with Incredible Feats
Non-Standard Actions
For any Action which is not clearly defined by an available action, our Story Guide may request a Prowess Check. Getting attacked in the middle of a jump or running along a narrow beam or across a tight rope may make the variable check reasonable.
Prowess Checks: (v:20 + 5% of Strength or +2% of Awareness, and any reasonable bonus)
Mechanical Notes from The Developer
Strength is a blanket attribute for physical elements. For mental challenges Awareness is our go-to. Agility may be subbed in as a flat value, but we suggest leaving Agility as is. 1% of Vitality may be used for effects where being tough might be more suitable. We endeavor to cover as many possible situations to where these open ended rolls are fully mitigated.
Notes
If your Story Guide decides you need to roll a Physical Prowess check for something which seems to be covered by the description of your Action. Roll Dice. You’ll get to play another card in your deck. Being actively responsive and rolling with the punches and taking victory with your limited hand against a foe who has every card in the game ready in their hand is the tastiest.
The Story Guide’s Notes
While on the mechanical side of things, a Prowess Check can be awarded for nearly any situation. As best practice, turning Prowess Checks into Clashes to keep things fair contest on the table is an excellent tool, especially during improvisation.
