Awareness

The physical ability to use the body's senses to identify surroundings, recognize effects on the body internally, and infer the internal effects on other's physical structure.

The mental ability to sense motives, gain insight into how things work, and determine correlation and causation.

Awareness: Score Range 0 to 20

Each point of Awareness costs 3 Power Points.

Each point of Awareness increases Evasion by 1.

 

Awareness Game Mechanics

Action Phase: The order which Player Characters gain their Action Slots in the Active Phase Encounter System is determined by Awareness.

  • The bonus they get to the (v:20 Awareness) check is equal to their Awareness Score. (+0 to +20)

Passive Awareness: The character may automatically detect stealthing or hiding.

  • Passive Awareness is (5+Awareness)

Sensory Sensitivity: Each point of Awareness increases sensory perception.

  • A higher score will passively discover hidden passages and treasure, detect lies, and sense motives.

Language: Recognizing subtleties in symbols, inflections, consonants and vowels allows for quickly adopting new languages. The higher a character is in Awareness, the shorter it takes to learn a new language when immersion is possible.

  • The amount of time it takes to learn a language is divided by Awareness to achieve fluency.

Active Search: Instead of passive observation, we may instead Search for things. Like a title of a chapter, an excerpt of a book, or something we know should be there but we cannot find.

  • This variable check, (v:20 Awareness) can illuminate a lost object.

  • Low rolls might just take more time instead of just failing, Within Reason

RNG Loot Rolls: Our Loot Rolls are attached to Awareness. While in most campaigns Loot is predetermined by the Story Guide. In many surprise me campaigns, we use RNG to determine Loot. A higher awareness brings better loot, understanding additional properties of that loot also depends on Awareness.
