Clash

A Clash is any interaction where an Instigator initiates an Action which requires the Defender to make an opposed Variable Check. Whoever’s Clash result is higher determines the result of the Action as prescribed by the Effect.

A Character’s Base Clash Total comes from the Attributes.

  • Strength: At 5, 10, 15, 20, and 30 Strength you gain a +1 Base Adjustment to your Clash.

  • Accuracy: At 5 and then at 10 Accuracy you gain a +1 Base Adjustment to your Clash.

  • Agility: At 5, 10, and 15 Agility you gain a +1 Base Adjustment to your Clash.

  • Awareness: At 5 and then at 10 Awareness you gain a +1 Base Adjustment to your Clash.

  • Vitality: At 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100 Vitality you gain a +1 Base Adjustment to your Clash.

While Strength and Vitality offer the largest Base Clash boost, the other Attributes do contribute. The Maximum Base Clash a Character may have is +17. When it comes to Actions which call for Clash, many of them have built in bonuses the the Clash they cause. Sources for Clash may be found in many other places as well.

Clash is one of those Mechanics which will never automatically succeed or fail based on the raw result of the variable.
