Wild Beasts
Effect Tree • Assault Riders • Tandem Companions
Growth Points: 5
Requirements: Level 1 • Companions
During Character Creation if Wild Beasts is among your starting Effect Trees, you begin the game with 1 Wild Beasts Tandem Companion. It may be any one of the Tier 1 Wild Beasts Fauna off the list below. At any given time a Character may only have two Active Tandem Companions.
Training together with your Tandem Companions makes you a lethal pack of predators.
Wild Beasts Tandem Companions will remain within 5 Tiles of you at any time. Unless an Assault says otherwise, the maximum distance they may travel from you is 10 Tiles unless forced to go further, or commanded to stay behind. While properly within this range they may join you in any of the Assault Actions granted by Wild Beasts.
Wild Beasts Tandem Companions may be targeted by Actions and the Victims of effects. Wild Beasts Infopanels include Hit Points, Evasion, Clash Rating, Size, and Weight.
If a Wild Beast dies, you’ll have to find a new one or find some way to resurrect the dead.
If the Player has an Effect Tree like Menagerie (• In Development •) or From Wild to Pack, they may host a number of Tandem Companions at their Tactical Hub Environment, provided their Domicile Options can support them. (e.g., Handler Expert, Hunting Expert, Garden or Greenhouse or The Shop List spending for food and a Livestock Pen for Shelter)
Taming A Wild Beast
A Bull Hound is currently the only Wild Beasts Companion available. Purchasing one from a breeder or starting the Character with Wild Beasts grants one Bull Hound as a Tandem Companion. Any creature who is roughly the same size and weight may be superimposed as flavor. We’re looking forward to adding dozens, if not hundreds of options for Wild Beast and other Tandem Companions.
Wild Beasts Assault Riders
Go for the Arms: When you Activate an Attack Action or Assault Action, your Wild Beasts Tandem Companion locks onto a chosen Arm of the Target of your Action if your Action is successful. This makes the Victim focus their Attacks and Actions on your Wild Beasts Tandem Companion and applies Attack Lockout for any Attack Action which requires two hands or the specified Arm until they free themselves. If you have two Wild Beasts, two Arms may be locked down.
Go for the Legs: When you Activate an Attack Action or Assault Action, your Wild Beasts Tandem Companion locks onto the Target of your Action if your Action is successful. This makes the Victim focus their Attacks and Actions on your Wild Beasts Tandem Companion and applies Movement Lockout until they free themselves. If you have two Wild Beasts, only one may perform Go for the Legs at a time.
Go for the Throat: When you Activate an Attack Action or Assault Action, your Wild Beasts Tandem Companion may attempt a Take Down. Go for the Throat requires the Wild Beasts Companion to succeed on an Accuracy Check. The bonus to Accuracy is equal to their Clash Rating. If Go for the Throat Hits, it applies (v:4 + Clash Rating) Bleeding Counters, and the Target is brought to the ground. After the Target is brought to the ground, your Wild Beasts Companion may retreat up to 2 Tiles. If you have two Wild Beasts, only one may perform Go for the Throat at a time.
Design Notes: Wild Beasts is an Effect Tree we’re looking to massively expand on. From unique Beasts to Choose from and their specialized actions to a multitude of Assault Rider Options. For now, we hope Players can still enjoy being a tamer with their incredible companions.
