Overview

When we make our character at level One, we have one (xps) to spend unlocking an Effect Tree. These 1 (xps) trees are called Opening Trees. With a lot of Practice, using the abilities repetitively, we gain Mastery Points in that Effect Tree, and the Trees grow into powerful effects.

While it is possible to buy several Opening Trees and have many abilities, Power Scaling depends significantly on Practice and Attributes. Unmastered Effect Trees are barely more powerful than pulling the trigger of a gun or swinging a sword without any training.

The most Advanced Effect Trees can cost up to 300 (xps) and have severe trauma associated with them. The majority of denizens of Vaia will recognize powers and understand where it comes from. Ability is a consequence of exposure.

Unlocking Effect Trees

The barriers for unlocking Effect Trees are written into their entries. The most common requirements are a Memory and of course spending the (xps). Higher tier Effect Trees may require a mix of other Effect Trees to unlock. The Entry Points of these higher tiers may also require a minimum amount of Master Points in a lower tiered Effect Tree.

My Sweetest Friend…

An individual is a mix of the random traits life has offered them. We are what we choose to practice. Often we are what life makes of us, and of what we have made of life. All that we are introduced to leaves impressions, and those impressions may planted as seeds. We may grow into mighty trees branching off a thousand ways from one nurtured catalyst.

Effect Trees are those possibilities of ability for our characters. All of them require experience to begin practicing and exploring possibilities. You’ll find memories, or required events be a part of the character’s story to gain access to an Effect Tree.

  • Entry Level Effect Trees require One experience (1xps) to unlock.

  • Higher Tier Effect Trees can require significant amounts of (xps) to unlock.

Mastery Points - Practice

Once unlocked, Effect Trees grow from ability usage. Each time a character uses an ability from an Effect Tree, they gain a Mastery Point for that Effect Tree. As Effect Trees grow they automatically unlock enhancements and sometimes additional abilities.

Training and Studying

We can train or study one ability a day for two hours to gain a daily Mastery Point. If the table makes a significant time lapse, then we may choose one Effect Tree to gain (v:8) Mastery Points per week.
