Druidic Axe [i]

The ritual that saved the Oaken Copse now serves to arm the druids. I haven’t seen one myself, but I’ve heard them threaten to use them. I’ve seen the wooden bracelets they call axes. I fear a wooden edge that might fell a tree in one swing, and replace it with its own seeds.

The Calm Ironoak Ritual

What a strange converse. I’ve seen Elves talk to trees, akin to how a divorced man talks with his therapist. Holding nothing back in hope that real wisdom may be found. They say if you talk to the right tree, and have the right kind of problem. That tree will provide you with both answers and the tool necessary to solve the issue.

Effects: Once in a Lifetime

The Calm Ironoak offers you a branch, one of its own children, in exchange for a service. Often this service is the death of some invader or ecocide of an invasive species in the forests the Calm Ironoak resides. As all Calm Ironoak share a bond, you may only ever obtain one Druidic Axe.

As long as you succeed in this service within 7 days, you will become Life Bound with your Druidic Axe.

Life Bound: Your branch is bound to you. If it dies (Durability dropping to Zero) You immediately lose all your Hit Points and become Vulnerable. Likewise, if you die and are locked into Permanent Death, your Druidic Axe stops repairing in sunlight and begins to rot, losing 25 Durability an hour until it disintegrates.

Druidic Bangle: When not in use the Druidic Axe may form into a wooden bangle that rests gently on your wrist. While not all Druidic Bangles are Druidic Axes, yours is, and it shows to others that you are a True Druid.

Transforming from Bangle to Druidic Axe, or Druidic Axe to Bangle takes (2AS|2RS|2FP)

Mastery: You gain 1 Mastery for each Calm Ironwood that reaches maturity born from your Druidic Axe.

Notes: Later on you will develop a connection to your trees, so some planning and design may be in order as you grow with your axe.

Calm Ironwood may be shaped as it grows. As they grow fully into maturity within a month, you have the chance to do Strange and Wonderful things.

Druidic Axe

The Druidic Axe may serve as a Woodsman’s Axe. It also serves in unique ways and grows with the one it is bonded too.

Types: Chopping, Striking

Damage: (v:8&Potency)

Celerity: (4AS|5RS|6FP)

Load Weight: 2.3

Durability: 750

Repair Methods: Auto-Repair: Druidic Axes regain 25 Durability an hour when left in sunlight or out in the rain to a maximum of 750, provided the tree from which it came is still alive. A Druid’s weapon dies permanently if their Durability reaches Zero.

Sowing Strike

Successfully hitting a Target with the Druidic Axe sows Calm Ironoak Acorns into their flesh.

The Calm Ironoak begins its life as spreading brambles with inch long briars. This carnivorous growth happens within seconds of the Acorn coming into contact with blood.

Activation: Automatic when Sown. Only one Calm Ironoak Acorn can sow in a Victim at a time. If the Victim removes

Effects

Bramble Growth: At the first upkeep after getting struck by the Druidic Axe, brambles begin growing out of the wound causing (v:10) Blood Counters that activate immediately, dealing damage equal to the number of Blood Counters, then halving as normal.

Removal: The Victim or Another must succeed an (v:20&Accuracy) check equal or greater than your Static Touch Accuracy. Successfully pulling out the brambles takes 1 Action Slot and causes (v:10&Potency) damage.

Ongoing: Until the Brambles are removed they continue to cause (v:10) Blood Counters each Upkeep.

Vulnerable: If the Victim of Bramble Growth becomes Vulnerable while affected by Bramble Growth, they die, and the brambles spread all over them, then seek to become roots. If those roots take hold, a new Calm Ironoak Tree grows at the location.

Note: It takes a Calm Ironoak less than a month to grow to over 60 feet and reach physical maturity. If the soil can’t sustain the growth, the Calm Ironoak dies.

Living Weapon

Every Druidic Axe is unique and grows in its own way after the image of whom it is bonded. At the same time the Axe becomes stronger and more effective.

When you hear the title Druid of the Axe, the irony is savory, but if you ever cross one just know, you’ll be plant food.
