Merce spent her youth fighting against the rising empire of Vaia, against the policies of Voric, The Tyrant. At the time she saw the disintegration of her culture, her people. After years of war and posturing she finally confront The Tyrant herself. She could have been his death if she fought, some say, but the moment was only the two of them sharing words.

“You’re destroying our way of life,”

“All I’ve seen of your way of life is the premeditated murder of my men and women and children. Among those who your men paid mercy feasted a fate worse than death. The men following you, who saw to your arrival to my throne, rape, pillage, and desecrate their conquered. Why should I let live on? Fowl Culture of Yours,”

“And your men do better?”

“Have you heard otherwise? I catch a man of mine do as a man of yours he’ll go without what he took, forever, and they know it. If they pillage, they’ll starve, if they murder without cause, they die, if they take advantage of the conquered, they serve Ralipal till death.”

“You sit on your throne of this self righteousness and do what?”

Voric showed her. Scenes of her men doing their terrors of war playing in real time. They still fought The Tyrants people just outside that throne room. She watched as her men became truly guilty right in front of her eyes. Axes splitting and crushing children. Swords sinking into the cowering common men who were found hiding away from the fight. A baby… Merce Ann couldn’t watch. She shut her eyes.
